Last year, Alison was moving with her family from Tokyo, Japan to the DC area.   They chose schools for the kids, and even narrowed down their search to a couple of neighborhoods.   Now the only thing left was to figure out how Alison and her husband, James, would get to work.

Every year, the U.S. News & World Report publication issues the results of its Nationwide “Best High Schools” rankings.    To come up with the rankings, US News focuses on four major indicators:

  • Student / Teacher ratio
  • College readiness – as measured by Advance Placement (AP®) or International Baccaleaurate (IB) passing rates
  • Proficiency in Geometry
  • Proficiency in Reading
